Kayaks Anyone!

Monday, June 29th, 2009

Charlie (Jorge’s son) has the shack open Thurs, Friday, Sat, Sunday from 9-3.   The kayaks are all locked together so you can’t just take one any more and he has to charge for them ($10 per person per hour) since they are no longer getting any subsidy from the Inn.  We went out on Friday - beautiful, but not as many fish as usual.  I think with the water warming up the reef population around Nopolo is changing just like the deeper water fish.

Sticker Shock on a Cab!

Are there any cabs in Nopolo? Answere from ANDREA ANDRADE

There are taxis at the airport those are about 250 or 300 pesos per person, quite expensive…

Renting a car in Loreto is now a must!

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009

While planning my trip for next week to Loreto I decided to rent a car for the week since with the Inn closed I will make more trips to town and there are places I want to see that I would need a car to get too. Anyway the quoted rate was great $164.34 for a week all taxes incl. But Hertz wanted $29 a day for collision coverage. I called American Express and enrolled in their premium program which only cost a lump sum $17.95 for each rental up to 42 days. It’s $24.95 for non California residents. It makes American Express the primary coverage and provides replacement car. Thought this info might be helpful. You will have to unenroll or call them if you do not want coverage on future domestic  rentals.     Mike Bartlett

June Activites in Loreto!

June Activities

During June, activities in Loreto turn over the Sea of Cortez. Water is getting warmer, and visibility (for those who love snorkeling or diving freaks) is getting better. Weather is warmer, so if you are in Loreto you’d better be in the water, otherwise you might get roasted.

Fishing. Dorados are getting near. Even July is considered the best month for fishing, June is perfect to start the stretching out fort the big season. One tournament will be organized during this month: Hotel Tripui Fishing Tournament, June 26 and 27. Sign up by June 25.

Phone (613) 133 0044. Email: tripuivacation@hotmail.com. Other options can be arrange, just contact concierge.

Diving. Loreto has a great dive master that you might know: Rafa Murillo. He knows perfect the Marine Park, and he is also a great person that will do anything to get you your best dive. A little adrenalin, ask him to take you to El Murcielago; just for fun, then El Sombrerito or El Repollo, Carmen and Coronado islands.

Phone (613) 1351914.

Snorkeling.  The water is getting a little clear, after April and May, not the best months for snorkeling. How about visiting the sea lions in Coronado, or maybe try to find some beautiful nudibranchs in Danzante. Contact concierge for details. Rafa Murillo will also take you to perfect snorkeling spots.

Pescado al ajo, Islas Restaurant. We do not get tired of Chef Francisco, the genius of Islas Restaurant. The menu of the place change a little, but Pescado al Ajo is still there, and that’s one of the reasons to visit Loreto over and over again. And if you try it with “tortillas de harina”, mmmm, 100% Loreto.

Phone (613) 1352341. Master Card and Visa Accepted.

Camping in Bahía Concepcion. One of the must beautiful spots in Baja. You only need to fix every detail (water, mosquito repellent, food) here in Loreto, you would not be able to find anything near Concepcion. What you might find there is a Kayak, and a great time. There is no contact information. Just drive one hour north of Loreto, and you will find El Requeson, Santispac or El Burro. Please remember to fill you car tank here in Loreto, the closest gas stations is in Mulege.
